Yoga for Recovery (Complimentary)

This class is taught by:

Shannon Elliott

SHANNON ELLIOTT - Owner and Director
Shannon has been integrally involved since we opened our doors in May of 2009. As a yoga instructor and administrator, she has nurtured Onyx's growth alongside her own. Shannon teaches both traditional and HOT yoga classes placing a keen focus on alignment. Her classes are a safe space where students are cared for and challenged. She has the ability to make students feel as if she is speaking directly to them without drawing individual attention to the person. Demanding participation in effort, her students work hard all while having fun. Shannon invites people to challenge themselves and progress pass their limited notions of what they believe possible. Her gift to others is to pass on the Teachings from those who have done the same for her. No matter the audience the Philosophy is spoken to be accessible to everyone and all environments/circumstances. Her classes are a blend of Tantric Philosophy teaching students how to Open their Hearts and connect to the Divine with a strong emphasis on Alignment. She believes that nothing should be done half way. Embodying each moment- as it is happening, balancing the play between the opposites, becoming a Manifestation of your Greatest Desires.

Noelle Strid

Noelle discovered yoga shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2008 and has been practicing ever since. She was immediately hooked, and was captivated by how much it helped her to build strength both mentally and physically, while allowing her to find peace and serenity. She has always had a love of dance, and is fascinated with the way bodies can find freedom through movement. She also has a background in ecological studies and is deeply passionate about the natural world. Her classes incorporate these notions, while creating a safe and nurturing environment for students to practice and grow. She received her 200 hour RYT at Onyx Yoga Studio in Warren, NJ and will be forever grateful to Shannon Elliot and Inna Hekler and all other teachers past, present and future for sharing their knowledge and love of yoga. She hopes that she can continue to share these teachings so others will be able to realize the same benefits and make yoga a sustainable part of their lives.

Alex Casner

Alex is a certified 200 HR RYT and also holds a certification in advanced trauma and addiction training. As well as a personal trainer, she works with her students to help them reach their goals and aspirations through hard work and a splash of humor.

Alex believes that everyone can find a comfortable space to allow themselves to grow with the belief that one is never too old to accomplish their dreams and desires. Alex discovered yoga in 2015 after finding Onyx a few short minutes from her home. She was immediately hooked and began her journey by attending more than 370 classes in her first year of being a member. She attributes her passion and love for the art to her teachers and mentors; Shannon Elliot, Gabriella Perotti, and Jane Lindemann who not only showed her the beautiful path that yoga could lead her on, but also an entirely new way of living.

Alex has been interested in athletics before she entered grade school, immersing herself in competitive swimming, boxing, mixed martial arts, and cross country. She competed for a semi-professional swim team until she entered college where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Public Relations from Kean University.
This class is open to anyone in recovery or on the journey to recovery who is or has been challenged by addiction and trauma. We will create a safe space for healing the body, mind, and soul. This class will focus on linking breath and movement, tapping into your emotions and feelings, and opening to the process of recovery. This practice will give you a set of tools and support for living a wonderful, healthy life. Everyone is welcome, beginners highly encouraged. Our goal is to create a sacred recovery community!

The entrance for this class is on the side of the Yoga studio and there will be a paper sign-in, so your anonymity will be protected to the best of our ability.

Funds to support this program are provided by Onyx and Kula for Karma, a non-profit organization bringing therapeutic yoga and meditation to those most in need, transforming lives and changing the face of healthcare.
