WARM Vinyasa Flow (Mixed Level)

This class is taught by:

Nancy Fischer

Nancy is a warm and supportive teacher that leads from her heart and loves to laugh from down deep in her core. She is passionate about living every day to the fullest. Yoga has taught her the value in being fully present in the moment and appreciating the beauty in all that is around you. She has dedicated over 10 years to practicing yoga and is fully committed to balancing a daily yoga and meditation practice along with her lifelong passion for long distance running. Nancy received her 200 Hour Yoga Alliance teaching certificate from Onyx Yoga Studio. She is grateful to many teachers that have inspired her along this journey and will always be present in her teachings including Shannon Elliott, Yulady Saluti, Annie Isaacson, and Alex Shipman. For these teachers have taught her the value of alignment, spirituality, laughter and the pure joy that comes from paying it forward and watching your student’s succeed. She is grateful to her family for their support along this journey.

Sherry Fahs

As the mother of four active, dyamic young girls, Sherry found her center, her peace and her increased ability to deal with the needs of this busy family, including her own needs, in the practice of yoga. With her certification in Yoga Dharma, her added training in Grounded Kids Yoga and her current study of Anatomy and Therapeutic Training, she enthusiastically teaches students both the physicality and the philosophy of Yoga. Her early educational background in theater and drama and her classroom teaching experience increase her ability to present Yoga in an interesting and sound way. Sherry offers careful explanations and demonstrations to beginners, but she also challenges advanced students to reach their potential. All of Sherry’s classes are imbued with a playful happiness, inspired by her work with children. Come and learn with her!

Michael Kohan

Michael (Mukunda Chandra das) completed his 300 hour teacher training in 2013 under the guidance of Ragunath das and Sondra Loring. Additionally, in 2015 he will complete a 600 hour Anusara Yoga teacher training lead by Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny. His well-rounded asana classes incorporate creative Vinyasa sequencing along with meditation, clear intention, and uplifting music. Michael’s asana classes are infused with devotion and aligned with the spiritual teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Master Patanjali. He strives to embody the qualities of yoga - humility, compassion, devotional service and non-violence, and he believes his role is to serve others through the practice of yoga, enabling students to become steadfast in their yoga. He believes that in serving others, we come to realize our true purpose.

Gabi Perrotti

A yogini since before she could even say “OM,” Gabi was introduced to yoga and meditation by her grandfather who was a devoted practitioner. Inspired by his way of life, she committed to her own practice in 2003 and has “continually been blown away by the ability that this practice has to give us exactly what we need in each moment, even as that need is constantly changing. Yoga is a perfect method and metaphor for life.” With her soothing voice and encouraging demeanor, her classes will have students of all levels feeling challenged and capable, strong and supple. Her classes are a moving meditation as she links breath with movement and she has a keen awareness of the ability that music has to move practitioners to greater depths. Inspired by her teachers Shannon Elliot and Amy Cronise-Mead, she teaches Vinyasa classes with special attention to alignment as a way to progress rapidly and safely, and to develop integrity and mindfulness. The eternal student, when Gabi is not on the mat, she is most likely to be found at a library or bookstore; she is in the Rutgers Graduate School studying Eastern Religions and Philosophies as well as Sanskrit. She feels "ridiculously lucky" to have the gift of sharing this practice of yoga with other people.

Jill Portaro

Jill dove into the yoga world after quitting her high paced 9-5 job to start her own mental health private practice. She thought yoga would be a good way to help pass the time as she built up her practice. A few months later, she signed up for teacher training and has grown to love the philosophy as well as the asana (practice). She now realizes that yoga is far from just a way to pass time. In fact, her life would be incomplete without it. Jill completed her 200-hour teacher training at Onyx Yoga Studio. Jill brings her warm-hearted energy to help students reach their full potential while feeling guided along the way. With a focus on alignment and breathwork, Jill helps students feel safe and capable in class. Her creativity and honesty will keep you laughing while working towards challenging yourself. She incorporates her mental health background onto the mat through mindfulness based principals leaving students feeling grounded even after leaving the mat.

Alex Casner Pfeifer

Alex is a certified 200 HR RYT and also holds a certification in advanced trauma and addiction training. As well as a personal trainer, she works with her students to help them reach their goals and aspirations through hard work and a splash of humor.

Alex believes that everyone can find a comfortable space to allow themselves to grow with the belief that one is never too old to accomplish their dreams and desires. Alex discovered yoga in 2015 after finding Onyx a few short minutes from her home. She was immediately hooked and began her journey by attending more than 370 classes in her first year of being a member. She attributes her passion and love for the art to her teachers and mentors; Shannon Elliot, Gabriella Perotti, and Jane Lindemann who not only showed her the beautiful path that yoga could lead her on, but also an entirely new way of living.

Alex has been interested in athletics before she entered grade school, immersing herself in competitive swimming, boxing, mixed martial arts, and cross country. She competed for a semi-professional swim team until she entered college where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Public Relations from Kean University.

Shereen Bernaz

Shereen is a Vinyasa style yoga teacher certified by Rethink yoga. She found yoga after dealing with 28 broken bones as a child. Yoga has changed her life, both mentally and physically. Her classes are challenging yet fun and she teaches with a combination a humor and vigor. Shereen loves to share a mantra with her class that will carry them throughout the week. Outside of yoga, Shereen is a mother to three beautiful children, and enjoys running, cooking and cycling.
A Vinyasa Yoga class performed at a WARM temperature (90+ degrees) and taught at a regular Mixed Level pace. A prior yoga practice and knowledge of basic postures is assumed as the class moves quite vigorously. The only difference between a HOT Flow class and this one is temperature. Come prepared to explore physical postures, traditional yogic chanting, breathwork and philosophy. Bring a non skid towel for your mat, hydrate well prior to class and bring water. We recommend that true beginners should start in Beginner Basics (regular temperature) before moving into WARM or HOT classes.
