Kundalini Yoga

Gabi Perrotti

A yogini since before she could even say “OM,” Gabi was introduced to yoga and meditation by her grandfather who was a devoted practitioner. Inspired by his way of life, she committed to her own practice in 2003 and has “continually been blown away by the ability that this practice has to give us exactly what we need in each moment, even as that need is constantly changing. Yoga is a perfect method and metaphor for life.” With her soothing voice and encouraging demeanor, her classes will have students of all levels feeling challenged and capable, strong and supple. Her classes are a moving meditation as she links breath with movement and she has a keen awareness of the ability that music has to move practitioners to greater depths. Inspired by her teachers Shannon Elliot and Amy Cronise-Mead, she teaches Vinyasa classes with special attention to alignment as a way to progress rapidly and safely, and to develop integrity and mindfulness. The eternal student, when Gabi is not on the mat, she is most likely to be found at a library or bookstore; she is in the Rutgers Graduate School studying Eastern Religions and Philosophies as well as Sanskrit. She feels "ridiculously lucky" to have the gift of sharing this practice of yoga with other people.

Barbara Fritze

Barbara (Himat Kaur) has been a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga teacher since
2004. She did her teacher training for Kundalini at Yoga East. Her practice has taken her throughout the country in order to enhance her skills and love for the incredible technology of Kundalini Yoga: six summer solstice celebrations in New Mexico (including numerous White Tantric yoga
meditation workshops), trips to California at Yoga West, to Los Angeles
and Vancouver British Columbia. She also has done several workshops with
Guru Singh at the Kripalu Institute in Stockbridge Mass and has done many
retreats with MahanRishi Singh in Yardley, PA. Sharing the teachings of
Yogi Bhajan is a passion she has had for years. She is thrilled to
join Onyx Yoga Studio as a teacher.

Tracy Hart

Tracy was always interested in sports and fitness, but discovered something more when she took her first yoga class. She found a way to connect breath to movement and this mind-body connection had her hooked on yoga. When Tracy took her first kundalini yoga class, she knew that she had found something life changing. She is grateful for kundalini yoga because it brings so many positive benefits into her life.
Since she has been an art teacher for ten years she knows the rewards of sharing something that she loves with others. Therefore, she was inspired to pursue her 200 hour RYT certificate from Kundalini Yoga East in NY so that she can share the gift of kundalini yoga with others. Always wanting to learn more, Tracy also received her 200 hour RYT certificate in vinyasa yoga from Urban Bliss Yoga in Charlotte, NC. She looks forward to combining her knowledge in both of these areas to help students go deeper into their yoga practice.

Micole Linehan

MICOLE LINEHAN - ONYX Member Advisor and Yoga Instructor

Micole is Onyx’s Member Advisor and is here to welcome and assist new, potential, and existing members. Discussions range from the most appropriate classes for specific goals and physicality, membership options, and simply what to wear and bring to class. You may email her at micole@onyxyogastudio.com

Micole is also a registered yoga instructor and graduate of Onyx Yoga Studio’s 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training program. She provides a safe and supportive environment for yogis to learn and practice physical and mental tools for well-being. Knowing that yoga has something to offer every individual, she happily teaches and practices a wide variety of styles and levels. Currently this includes basics/beginners, hatha, vinyasa flow, therapeutics, gentle, restorative, as well as pranayama (breathing practices) and meditation classes. In addition, Micole has a personal kundalini practice under the generous guidance of Ogden Kruger and Shannon Elliott. She also enjoys going onsite to local companies to provide yoga and meditation breaks for employees at work.

Shannon Elliott

SHANNON ELLIOTT - Owner and Director
Shannon has been integrally involved since we opened our doors in May of 2009. As a yoga instructor and administrator, she has nurtured Onyx's growth alongside her own. Shannon teaches both traditional and HOT yoga classes placing a keen focus on alignment. Her classes are a safe space where students are cared for and challenged. She has the ability to make students feel as if she is speaking directly to them without drawing individual attention to the person. Demanding participation in effort, her students work hard all while having fun. Shannon invites people to challenge themselves and progress pass their limited notions of what they believe possible. Her gift to others is to pass on the Teachings from those who have done the same for her. No matter the audience the Philosophy is spoken to be accessible to everyone and all environments/circumstances. Her classes are a blend of Tantric Philosophy teaching students how to Open their Hearts and connect to the Divine with a strong emphasis on Alignment. She believes that nothing should be done half way. Embodying each moment- as it is happening, balancing the play between the opposites, becoming a Manifestation of your Greatest Desires.
Experience Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. This class will focus on pranayama breathwork, movement, meditation, and kriyas (cleansing practices to help strengthen the nervous system and subtle body to awaken the kundalini energy.) When this energy awakens you will experience your own innate inner power and joy.. You will leave feeling rejuvenated, energized, balanced, and present. Shannon studies Kundalini Yoga under her teacher Guru Jagat.
